Price changes in silk are sometimes sudden and strong upward as well as downward. It mostly depends on the difficulties to have the informations about raw silk situation in the world an real balance between demand and supply. In our company own estimation the unbalance between demand and supply dates back from the beginning of 2004 however the privatization in China and the fear of loosing money on the stock by every trader and user has brought the overall world stock situation to the minimum of the last decade at least. So the price hike have self fuelled and we have seen the dramatic change of today’s situation. Frankly speaking we expected it since June last although we estimated prices would have jumped up a bit less than it did.
About the prices in Europe it is truth that so far customers-weavers are not accepting the price hike fully, so it depends how strong are seller’s hands for coming two months Traders have another concept and some are buying in very high price to secure the stocks, some are more carefull and waiting to see what happen.
