High costs pushing prices up (Sept. 23-30,2006)

This week saw CCSE electronic prices moving up to hit new highs due to short crop estimation. Active March Raw Silk touched highest 273,860 yuan and closed at 273,410 yuan on Friday. And active March Dried Cocoon touched highest 89,330 yuan and closed 89,040 yuan on Friday.
The gathering of silkworm cocoon has begun since late September, while early October for Jiangsu. Generally the purchasing prices set by purchase departments exceed 1500 yuan 50kg. Even some silkworm raisers sold their cocoons at higher price to some corporations or individuals without cocoon purchase qualification. The market was dominated by crop news.
In CCSE spot market, domestic manufacturers and traders have raised their prices for their existing stocks available. Some of them are more willing to sell stocks after the long holiday.This week raw silk 3A export price to India fluctuated around 31 usd.
