Survey: Chinese Silk Is Top Souvenir For Malaysian Visitors To China

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- Malaysia visitors to China during or after the Olympic Games are more likely to buy Chinese silk, according to a survey on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and travel to China, commissioned by Visa.
The survey showed that 74 percent of Malaysian women were more likely to buy Chinese silk compared to men.
In a statement here Monday, Visa said the survey also revealed that 30 percent of the Malaysian men were more inclined to buy electronic products compared to women.
"China not only offers interesting attractions to visit. It also promises tourists' a one-of-a-kind shopping experience," Visa country manager for Malaysia, Stuart Tomlinson said.
The survey also found that local products were the top purchase for visitors from Hong Kong (62 percent), clothing for Australian's, New Zealander's and Singaporean's (63 percent, 60 percent and 52 percent respectively), Chinese tea for Japanese and Koreans (36 percent and 49 percent), arts and craft for Taiwanese (46 percent) and electronic products for Indians (60 percent).
