Ranchi, April 18: The state industry department would impart training to 45 youths on silkworm rearing, silk weaving and silk printing trades, as silk industry is on a boom.
The one-year training will be provided at Jharkhand Silk Technology Development Institute, earlier known as Tasar Sansthan at Chaibasa, the hub of world class Kuchai silk.
Minimum educational qualification required for a youth to be eligible for this vocational training programme is matriculation. The aspirant should be in the age group between 18 and 25 while five-year relaxation in maximum age limit would be given to aspirants belonging to Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste categories.
Dhirendra Kumar, the industry department special secretary and also the managing director of Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicraft Corporation Limited (Jharcraft), said that if the number of applicants crosses the seat limit they would conduct interviews by the last week of June for entry into the institute.
Application form on prescribed format has to be sent to the institute by May 15.
Out of total 45 seats — 22 for silkworm rearing, 13 for silk waving and 10 another for silk printing trade — six seats will be reserved for SC candidates, 14 for ST candidates, 12 for backward community students while rest 13 seats will be filled up with general category students.
An industry department source said that students pursuing college education need not apply as the course is vocational and to be pursued after matriculation. The course will be run in association with Piska Nagri-based Central Tasar Research and Training Institute and the handloom, silk and handicrafts directorate.
