India:Silk technical park to be set up in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug. 6 (PTI): Jammu and Kashmir government plans to set up a silk technical park here to generate employment opportunities for local youth.
The proposed park would be established at Zakoora near here where 38 reeling units will function under one roof with common facility for dying and weaving, Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar said speaking at a workshop-cum-training on maintenance and multiplications of bivoltine silkworm race at Manasabal, 35 kms from here, yesterday.
The workshop was organised by Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Pampora, in collaboration with state sericulture development department.
Zargar asked the participants to evolve a mechanism to enhance productivity and compete with other countries by maintaining quality and quantity of cocoon.
He said sericulture could provide enhanced avenues of economic development to landless and marginal farmers of the state and underlined the need for improving available human resources by imparting training to the field staff in latest farm technology.
Speaking at the workshop, Director of State Sericulture Development Department Mohamad Ashraf Khan said the state, particularly Kashmir division, could serve as a seed bank for rest of the country because of its climatic conditions.
