Sericulture and silk have steadily developed in Vietnam, influencing designers. Ao dai, hand-woven by traditional village craftsmen using satin or silk, has captivated the fashion arena with its soft feel and beautiful rich looks.

Silk collections created by local fashion designers have adorned the ramp from regional countries to fashion hubs including France, Germany and Italy. Expertise in silk applications has brought fame to top Vietnamese designers Sy Hoang and Minh Hanh from all across the globe.

Silk weaving villages are spread in different parts of the country, with Van Phuc, Tan Chau and Nam Cao being the most significant craft villages.

My A satin, dyed with a kind of fruit instead of chemicals, is preferred by various artists. Tan Chau village became famous in past few years due to this cloth, with characteristic features like shimmering looks, smooth surface and bright colours.

Designers from Canada, Australia and France are lured by this satin owing to its new colours.
