(January 15, 2007) — Sweaters? Overcoats?
Even as winter seems to finally be taking hold, markdowns on traditional cold weather clothing appear to be steeper than ever.
Some retailers are slashing prices on winter wear to make room for spring inventory. At the Coat Factory in Midtown Plaza, you can buy a $39 men's or women's down-filled jacket for $19.
At Sears in Greece, store manager Doug Klipp said most of the winter apparel ?including outerwear, down jackets, hats, gloves and scarves ?is marked down between 50 percent and 70 percent. Klipp said more discounts would kick in today.
Markdowns are common in January, but this year are especially large because there's such an oversupply of winter apparel. It just hasn't been selling fast because the weather has been unseasonably warm.
