On the festival of Pongal, showrooms are offering saris in fresh designs at discounted prices. This resulted in people flocking to sari stores in Tamil Nadu.
Designs have been modernized for traditional handmade saris. But for special functions, Kancheevaram silk saris are still much preferred.
Sale of Kancheevaram saris featuring kundan work and costing Rs6,700 has gone up. Saris with embroidery priced at Rs6,000 are also selling well.
