Global Village is the cultural entertainment centre in Dubai. Here the Thai pavilion is showcasing various items from gifts to handicrafts, T-shirts and artificial flowers which can suit to various pockets.

The frontage of the Thai pavilion is displaying a flame which represents the bright future of Thailand.

The most interesting product in the pavilion is the traditional dress of Thailand. The ‘Phasin’ which is worn by women is a full-length rectangular piece of cloth worn like a skirt or sarong made of Thai silk. It can be of any colour and has contrast bands around the hem. Thai women wear it with a long-sleeved silk blouse.

For men, the traditional dress called as ‘seur phra ratchathan’ is a short-sleeved shirt or long-sleeved for formal occasions, with a high neck. On formal occasions, a cummerbund is tied around the waist.

The Thai National Dress has been adapted and created by the influence of the styles of neighboring countries such as the Khmer, Lao, Burmese, Malays and Indonesians.

Another popular attraction of the pavilion was the world famous Thai silk. They are soft but have a coarse texture with uneven knotty threads which is extremely suitable for weaving by hand.

Thai silk has a magnificent, rich, exotic beauty and, with proper care, can last a century or more. The colour of this fabric does not fade and proves very much suitable for the country’s atmosphere.
