CHENNAI: In connection with Gandhi Jayanthi, the Khadi and Village Industries Board began the sale of khadi silk sarees in the State on last Monday.

Handlooms and Textiles Department Secretary C.P. Singh inaugurated the first sale at the Khadi Craft showroom in the city.

He distributed prizes to best designers and artisans.

30 per cent discount

According to a release by Khadi Craft, a discount of 30 per cent will be given on khadi cotton and silk sarees and other khadi products during the sale, which will be available for Deepavali.

For the benefit of middle-income group people and office-goers silk sarees are available at a cost of Rs. 2,000.

Target fixed

For this year, a target of Rs. 281.58 lakh has been fixed for khadi varieties and Rs. 330 lakh for handicraft, says the release.
