RANCHI: The state's silk neckties, which were made of tussar and mulberry were the centre of attraction at the swadeshi mela in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, said Jharkhand khadi board chairperson Jainendu here on December 12.

The khadi board chief, who has just returned from Malaysia after showcasing a variety of khadi products at the exhibition organised by Swadeshi Jagran Manch, said the visitors to Jharkhand pavilion were impressed by the neckties.

Jainendu told here that Khadi ties are sold at Connaught Place in Delhi, but the quality of our ties is much better.

He said the pricing of the ties has not been discussed in depth, since the board had merely experimented with it. He expected the range of ties to be available from Rs 400 to Rs 1,200 per piece.

He also told that they wish to develop a brand of silk ties which will give a discount of up to 30 per cent.

Board officials said a woman from Jamshedpur has made about 50 sample pieces of the tie.

He tried to experiment with the ties after someone told us about the woman. She has not charged anything now, since she wanted to gauge the response first.

He have given the cloth-cut pieces to her and we will follow the practice that there should be no exploitation at any level manufacturer to user,?an official said.

The board may use the woman as a resource person for mass production of the ties, he added.

There are mainly four varieties of silk-tussar, mulberry, eri and moonga. Since Jharkhand produces mainly tussar and mulberry, we have focussed on them,?said the official.

The fair will have over 150 stalls from various states. The fair will also have discussions on how to promote use of khadi besides holding fashion shows for the youth.
