Jiaxing begins to gather late-autumn silkworm cocoons this week. The purchase price of fresh cocoons fluctuates around 600 yuan per dan (50kg), a 23.5 percent drop from 785 yuan during same period last year.
Meantime, the late-autumn cocoon quality seems better than previous lots this year due to normal climate. However, the slump in global raw silk market still affects domestic cocoon price trend.
The average cocoon purchasing price is down by 9 percent year-on-year on total output basis. Cocoon purchasing price in spring, summer, early-autumn, mid-autumn and late-autumn periods drops by 6.1 percent, 32.8 percent, 44.5 percent, 32.7 percent and 23.5 percent respectively.
Silkworm raisers are so disappointed at such price level.
