China exported a total of USD 13.16 billion worth of textile and garment in May, growing USD 330 million from April and 17.8% over 2006, according to the fifth monthly report on the cotton market published by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on June 15.
From January to May, the country exported textile and garment worth USD 57.35 billion, rising 15.6% on the previous year. It is estimated that the export growth of textile and garment will probably hit 12% in 2007.
Generally speaking, the growth rate of textile and garment export has showed some decline from the earlier time, hurt by the increased costs of materials and labor force, the appreciation of renminbi and the reduced export rebate.
Therefore, the domestic textile and garment enterprises of China should pay more attention to convert export structure, to increase the added value of products and to build more valuable brands, according to sources familiar with the matter.
