For the next five years, Guangxi province will speed up silk industry, not only to establish the largest silk trading market in the western region, but also to build in the country a sericulture production base, a silk production and processing base and a silk trade information center.

In 2005, cocoon output in Guangxi region reached 148,600 tons, accounting for one-fourth of the country's total output, ranking the first in the country, and becoming a major cocoon-producing province.

Guangxi’s cocoon silk industry is still at the stage of processing raw materials in general, with disadvantages of lower commercialization of sericulture industry, small processing scale and short industry chain.

Therefore Guangxi will promote the scale, industrialization, standardization of silkworm industry and ecological development as well, meanwhile will vigorously develop silk processing in the ‘11th Five-year Plan’ period.

It is reported that Guangxi will strive to build 10 large and first-rate modern silkworm farms, 5 silk industrial parks, and one cocoon quality inspection and quarantine center in the country by 2010.

Guangxi will become the silkworm production base in the country and even in the world by relying on the advantages of high quality silkworm breeding counties and the building of quality demonstration bases.
