As China's export trade volume surges, more and more anti-dumping cases against China are emerging. A statistic report by WTO shows that China has seen the most number of anti-dumping cases for 11 years consecutively. In an interview given to the People's Daily Overseas Edition, director of the Import and Export Fair Trade Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce Wang Shouwen hoped that more and more domestic companies will be able to use trade relief measures to protect themselves when facing unfair competitions from their rivals abroad.
He said that since China joined WTO five years ago, the country has fulfilled its commitment to WTO by liberalizing more of its domestic market. At present, the average tariff for industrial products made in China has been reduced to 9%, while that for agricultural products has been cut to 15.2%. The current average tariff for agricultural products in the world is 62%.
The slump in tariff has put many domestic industrial sectors under tremendous pressure, especially those which are still making adjustments for industrial upgrading. In an increasingly more open market, it is imperative for exporters to effectively take trade relief measures to protect themselves against the possible impacts brought by the huge inflow of foreign products. Citing agricultural production as an example, Wang said that China's agricultural sector is still relatively weak, business operation is not highly intensive and the sector has received little domestic support. Chinese hi-tech industry, which has just begun to develop, is another sector easily exposed to international unfair competition. In recent years, Chinese chemical and steel industries have experienced bitterness in this aspect.
