In the past China was known by its silk. However, today it produces the highest quantity of silk in the world while the best quality silk is produced in Italy.
Many leading silk brands are from Europe. Even if many of these names purchase Chinese silk as raw material, none of these give credit to China.
Chinese merchants have recognized that only establishing new domestic silk brands can put China on the world map again.
Currently local silk brands mainly cater to domestic markets and it will be a challenge to exploit international markets and will take a long time.
Experts suggest that China must not only create new silk brands but also innovate and research new ways to enhance quality that will attract new export markets.
