According to statistical report of Chongqing foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission, this spring Chongqing distributed 297400 boxes of silkworm eggs this year, down by 3.12 percent compared to same period of last year；Chongqing produced 10269 tons of silkworm cocoon, up by 11 percent；Local silkworm rearers earned an income of 0.174 RMB yuan from selling cocoons, up by 42 percent；Cocoon Output per box rose by 15 percent to reach 34.5 kg；Cocoon average purchase price rose by 29.2 percent to reach 16.96 yuan per kg；reelability of silkworm cocoon rose by 5 points.

Meantime, sericulture production gradually shifts to the area where is most suitable for sericulture. The egg distribution volume tend to decrease somewhat in Three Gorges Reservoir Area(TGRA) and western Chongqing. On the contrary, this spring the egg distribution volume rose by 6.7 percent in south-eastern Chongqing.

The decline in silkworm egg distribution volume in the province is a result of the following factors：Transfer of rural labour has increased from agriculture to rural industry and cities in recent years and it causes lack of labour and low scale efficiency in sericulture production. So it’s relatively common that some rearers are unwilling to invest in mulberry production. Currently, cocoon and silk market looks positive. So the decrease in egg distribution volume is really beyond expectation of most people.
