With the approaching time of autumn cocoon production, the silkworm seed pre-order situation seems unoptimistic. Director of Huzhou Sericulture Management Station told reporters that 100000 pieces of silkworm seeds had been pre-ordered till the moment, down 18000 pieces compared with the same period of last year. On the other hand, 130000--135000 pieces of seeds could be bred as a result of ample mulberry leaves. Such status should be given great concerns by relative sectors.

In case the seed distribution volume drop, the mulberry leaves should be wasted and the cocoon output and farmers’ income should decrease.

Simultaneously, there are several advantages in autumn cocoon production this year as follows: 1. The cocoon and silk market prices are showing positive growth. The purchasing price of autumn cocoon could reach the level of spring cocoon; 2. Mulberry tree growth looks fine; 3. The quality of silkworm seed is fine. 4, The weather is suitable for cocoon production.

In view of the situation, the Huzhou government calls for lower levels to boost cocoon production.
